If you attend any First XV games at Clifton you will be aware that we have an eloquent and proactive Match Day Announcer in Roger Opie. As well as commenting on the match events, he also uses pauses in the action to give updates on some of the events at Clifton Rugby Club. Some of his notes are recorded here.

Six Nations from the Grandstand PDF Print E-mail

Previous seasons have seen armchair speculation over 6 Nations results from some of our resident pundits including Ronnie and the intuitive Mr Barnes.

Our Clifton Ladies over the years enjoyed excellent representation in both English and Welsh sides including the multi capped Non Evans as Welsh captain------strong connection with myself as Non’s mother was a bridesmaid at our wedding many years ago.

Santa and Dings to come soon PDF Print E-mail
As the Christmas lights begin to flicker in Clifton Village and across the area one remembers Christmas times gone by which will doubtless provide our programme editor with sufficient material to produce an epic for the Dings match on a Dickens theme---rumour is that he once played for Clifton alongside many of our literati and other artists.

Last year the 1st XV pleaded training as an excuse not to turn up for the switching on of lights in Clifton. However our trusty Nomads filled several breaches to act as alcohol free stewards in and around the Village to control marauding crowds. They were resplendent in hired 1 st team kit--- many of us had not realised that the Nomads are a mixed gender team operating and training at the Brunel Wine Bar. Tolerant sponsor Matt does a wonderful job with such wayward former stars. Aftab resolves to have his own e-mail account in 2013 but thanks Sarah for helping him read his mail.

How very different from the early days of the Bandits when confirmations were a touch more tentative, an agreement in Redland Tennis club late on a Thursday evening, a message left with a landlord/parent and a "press gang" around the pubs of Hotwells and Clifton Village.

Sunny Autumn days at Clifton RFC PDF Print E-mail
Two very fine successive Saturday afternoons brought the factor 50 for the Grandstand faithful watching excellent performances on the pitch with comfortable wins over both Southend and Lydney.

Old hands could not recall when a Clifton pack last showed such dominance over the Lydney 8.  Imperious line out play by Big John Levis and even Bigger George Biagi from Arioni with power play from the front row of Davis, Fincken and Clifton Sausage man of the match Charlie Bullimore----warning sent to the Sausage that this boy can eat----such an impressive start this season from Charlie who played school rugby last season.  Darren and Salts are injecting home grown young talent into the squad which speaks of their confidence and commitment to developing young players and the ongoing success of Clifton Juniors.  Having said that senior statesman Salts did the business against Southend and Fincks with a dashing try in each game more than did his bit.
