If you attend any First XV games at Clifton you will be aware that we have an eloquent and proactive Match Day Announcer in Roger Opie. As well as commenting on the match events, he also uses pauses in the action to give updates on some of the events at Clifton Rugby Club. Some of his notes are recorded here.

Program notes from Paul Stevens:
GOOD afternoon everyone and welcome to today's match between Clifton and our friends from just up the M5 – Hartpury College, a justifiably well-respected club that has provided so many promising players to Gloucester and also defeated us in the EDF Energy Cup Final at Twickenham a few years ago.

Program Notes Vs Henley - Clive Who? |

Program notes by Paul Stevens from Clifton vs Henley:
Clive who?
GOOD afternoon everyone and welcome to today's match between Clifton and our jolly boating friends, Henley Hawks. The club was founded back in 1930 as Old Henleiensians, which is not that easy to say. In fact, rather like ‘Czechoslovakia’, it looks rather as if it was named after all the other letters in the Scrabble set had been used. The now-renamed Henley Hawks can no doubt, boast many celebrated names in their history but perhaps none quite so illustrious as Clive Woodward, who became coach at the Berkshire club in 1990.

An OBE, All Blacks, Crusaders and into 2012 |
Clifton Rugby Club extends warm congratulations to former club captain, president and ground trustee Grant Watson awarded an OBE in the New Year’s Honours. The citation in the London Thunderer reads for “services to Newport Unlimited”------we also recognise the huge impact Grant has made in over 40 years service to this club and Bristol business------and we have grandson Will developing into a fine player-----Grant was one of and arguably the visionary in moving us to Cribbs Causeway from Eastfield Road.

Early Christmas bonus points, Christmas lights and a Cornish weekend |
As I write teletext brings news of yet another win and try bonus point at Shelford. Following on from the five tries at the mighty Reds and ground out win at home to Westcombe Park the Stand is feeling the warmth of early seasonal cheer. Two try Cookie looks like our kind of Father Christmas.
