View from the Stand

If you attend any First XV games at Clifton you will be aware that we have an eloquent and proactive Match Day Announcer in Roger Opie. As well as commenting on the match events, he also uses pauses in the action to give updates on some of the events at Clifton Rugby Club. Some of his notes are recorded here.

The Bristol Evening Post had described this game as “mouth watering”-----immediate link on the PA announcement to our main sponsor’s Doom Bar and its nourishing qualities.

Doom Bar’s owners Sharp’s Brewery of Rock are presenting a serious image of responsible drinking and showing a lead in environmental sustainability:

• A local Cornish dairy herd consumes 30 tonnes of spent grain every week

• Hungry pigs devour 5 tonnes of protein rich Sharp’s yeast per week----fantastic bacon!

• Cornish beef cows drink up to 30 litres of waste beer per week---- happy cows and no
surprise then that Sharps also sponsor the Wadebridge Camels RFC----guess what drove
their recent promotion?

Clifton Vs Bristol Fri 20th August - Match Info PDF Print E-mail
As the large crowd gathered for this eagerly awaited friendly
the storm clouds were forming over Blaise Woods leading
two men in a kayak to seek refuge in the Grandstand-----
another first for Clifton to have white water rafting in the
crowd----apparently George and co are raising funds for the
Bristol Academy and will be kayaking 165 miles down the
Thames----£450 collected on the night-----good luck boys----

Clifton Vs Bridgwater 17th April 2010 PDF Print E-mail
The tropical climate of Bridgwater which now lacks the aroma from the old plastics factory brought the Clifton View from the Grandstand to the Bridgwater Touchline and   provided an opportunity to observe the Clifton bench in action and improving their sun tans.  The fact that the bench boys obstructed our view provided us with unique insights into the wider squad.
