The Bristol Evening Post had described this game as “mouth watering”-----immediate link on the PA announcement to our main sponsor’s Doom Bar and its nourishing qualities.
Doom Bar’s owners Sharp’s Brewery of Rock are presenting a serious image of responsible drinking and showing a lead in environmental sustainability:
• A local Cornish dairy herd consumes 30 tonnes of spent grain every week
• Hungry pigs devour 5 tonnes of protein rich Sharp’s yeast per week----fantastic bacon!
• Cornish beef cows drink up to 30 litres of waste beer per week---- happy cows and no
surprise then that Sharps also sponsor the Wadebridge Camels RFC----guess what drove
their recent promotion?
Loads of connections between the two teams----Kempton in a Dings shirt and Paul Fincken with Clifton------Bristol dual registrations evident------Watkins and Ashwin for us-----Barney Purbrook playing but almost joining the Clifton trio in the Bristol pack tomorrow.
Bristol, Clifton and Dings now known as the golden triangle of local rugby------a somewhat restrained visiting crowd no
longer chanting----“There’s only one team in Bristol”-------2 points separated us in last year’s fixtures and it was to transpire only one today!
Welcome to today’s match sponsor Mueller Europe represented by Nick Claridge and his guests.
Good to have the rapidly recovering Steve Lennard with us----soon to be back-----and Sam Smee recovering from a nasty facial injury at Canterbury-----today Sam on the match camera----not sure the Head Coach will value the crowd shots though at critical stages of on the pitch action.
On the pitch a superb individual try from George Watkins and yet another Taylor-Menzies try following deft handling by Sam Kent.
A moment to savour----Dave McLoughlin is 45 today----- one of our most fervent and committed supporters-----we are indebted to Rob Smith for this information--------Rob still running the pre match lunches----thanks, Rob.
Mike Anderton ready to ambush anyone for their subs-----always in the Function Room at half time-----club shop open throughout-----no marks for Spoons Shone though wearing a M & S [staff discount] shirt in club colours----and he bought one for a friend!
President Raine doing his best to inflate the Clifton score on the board----quick to blame others but it’s a great presidential trick used by politicians-----the numerate in the visiting crowd did notice John.
Bucket collection today for FOOTPRINTS FOR ABIGAIL------Charlotte Walker, our physio, is running the Dublin marathon on October 25th for the charity to support Abigail who is 9 years old and needing a £36,000 operation in the US--------Charlotte ran a very respectable 2 hours in the Bristol Half Marathon-------she is happy to receive donations at any time.
Our thanks to Dave at Clifton’s Muset Restaurant for sponsoring man of the match awards for the past 18 seasons---sadly no longer trading----we are actively seeking a new sponsor-----offers welcome.
------and the match---- a truly intense local derby played with passion and commitment with a richly gained Clifton victory-------- even JB looked content----well done guys!
