Clifton absorbed early pressure and using the wind were able to work their way down to the Old Pats 22 where Chris Hobbs scored from a trade mark catch and drive. Clifton were able to dominate territory for the next 15 minutes and seemed to be seeing the half out in some comfort. But with less than a minute to go Old Pats backs managed to get some space and worked their way up field for a well worked try converted with the last kick of the half.  5: 7 at halftime.
 
Playing against the wind in the second half Clifton were still able to maintain a strong grip on the ball and worked a position for scrum half Ollie Bowden to cross wide out. 10:7. Old Pats refused to give in and fashioned a try close to posts to regain the lead 10:14 with 10 minutes left on the clock. With time running out, Clifton set up camp in the OPs 22 and launched a number of driving lineouts but were met with stubborn resistance. With two minutes to go, and after a series of rucks, the ball was spread wide and Matt Carr was able to squeeze in at the corner.
 
All Clifton had to do was to catch the kick off and run the clock down, which they were able to do without further alarm. A high quality and high tempo match between two good sides. Clifton probably deserved to win if only because of the dominance of their tight five. As all of the side were under 18s there is the opportunity to defend the cup next year.
