Clifton beat Cleve at Station Road on Saturday by 29 points to 7 in a hard fought local derby. The win leaves Clifton requiring one more win to secure the South West One title after Weston beat Bournemouth. All eyes now turn to Clifton's next league game away at Bournemouth.
Clifton were made to work hard by a robust Cleve side who ensured Clifton never really got into their stride. Clifton's tries were scored by Paul Reid, John Levis, Rob Viol and Sam Kent with a further penalty try and two conversions from fly half Andy le Bell. The Clifton number 10 also picked up the Muset Man of the Match award. Cleve were rewarded for their efforts with a converted try and are assured of South West one rugby next year. Clifton now start a tough week of preparation for the crucial league fixture against Bournemouth away next Saturday. In other rugby the Wanderers beat their counterparts at Cleve 51 - 23, whilst the NOMADs won the merit league with a convincing 77 - 12 win over St Mary's Old Boys. The BANDITs lost out away to Chepstow. |
