National League 2 South Result

A match which started in bitterly cold conditions saw some of the best rugby the Clifton side has played all season. Building on the previous two performances, the men in Lavender and Black displayed confidence and strength in defence and used that platform to launch attacks which delivered tries from the set piece and open play.

The first half saw 2 tries from Callum Roberts and Max Woodward, with one conversion and a penalty from Brad Barnes the home side led 15-0 at the break. Characterised by solid defence and a dominant scrum, Clifton left the field confident in their performance.

Bury St Edmunds started the second half positively and scored their first try through Hooker Tristan King, duly converted by fly half Fraser Honey. The resurgence of the visitors was short lived, as a flurry of tactical replacements re-energised the Clifton side and a brace of tries from second row David Hill and prop Alex Giltrow (voted Clifton Sausage man of the match), both converted by Brad Barnes, sealed the bonus point and took the match away from the visitors.

Local rivals Old Reds lost at Cinderford, meaning Clifton Rugby's gap to relegation increased to 9 points; today's 29-7 win will boost team confidence and decrease the risk of relegation.
