If you go down to the woods today you'll meet a Cindy side.

Last week Clifton Rugby welcomed the new season with mixed emotions. A draw against Chinnor had mixed reactions. On reflection we saw some great running rugby and some well worked tries. However ultimately we have to be honest and agree we let a victory slip through our hands.

Nevertheless we review, prepare and we go again!

This weekend the squad travel away to Gloucestershire and to the forest. They face Cinderford RFC who last week secured a victory against Canterbury RFC. The use of a well-established driving lineout allowed the Gloucestershire based side to claim the all-important five point bonus victory and now sit in the top three spot, albeit after one week.

The two sides have shared a close rivalry in the past and their encounters have always been impressive to watch. In 2016/17 season the sides kicked the season off to a grand start with both sides scoring five tries a piece at Station Road. The poor kicking display by Clifton cost them the victory with not a single converted try.

The two sides met again for the Christmas fixture and were welcomed to a wet and foggy day at Cinderford RFC. Strapped by injuries Clifton Rugby put up a valiant display but again fell short to a team that consistently performs well throughout last season.

Cinderford finished 7th in the league last year above Clifton Rugby who sat in 10th when the season closed. We go into this week the underdogs on paper but if last week’s tenacity is anything to go by then I would not write off the lavender and black side just yet.

The match will be played this Saturday 9 September at 3.00pm. For those wishing to travel away please find the ground address below.
