Clifton Rugby Club Bar Manager - Job Description & Person Specification

Post Title: Bar Manager (part time – Approx. 12 hours p/w)
Responsible to: Operations Manager (Dan Wells)

Job Summary

The Bar Manager will be expected to lead the Bar staff and bar focussed volunteer teams that jointly represent the public face of Clifton Rugby Club at events, ensuring the highest levels of customer service and satisfaction and achieving all commercial targets.

Main Responsibilities

  1. To act as premises supervisor for Clifton Rugby Club
  2. To work with team to ensure that Clifton Rugby bar is run effectively, to ensure customer satisfaction from the public and corporate guests
  3. To ensure that an appropriately staffed bar is provided for events, hires and other functions as required
  4. To be responsible for training, managing and developing volunteers and other paid staff to ensure an efficient bar service is maintained as required
  5. To undertake regular Bar Supervisor shifts (on average two per week) across a range of event types in the evenings, daytimes, weekdays and weekends
  6. To maintain accurate stock movement records and ensure that regular stock-taking is undertaken and reports provided to the Head of Operations and Finance Department as required
  7. To work with automated tills setting up products, users and reporting on stock, cashing up etc.
  8. To act as a key holder for the building with responsibility for opening and closing as required
  9. To undertake any other duties as required that are commensurate with the general level of responsibility for this post

Required Knowledge and Experience

• Some practical experience of managing and working in a busy bar environment
• Experience of managing and training staff/ Volunteers
• Good communications skills
• Good administrative skills including record keeping
• Ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative under pressure
• Lively and outgoing personality
• Flexible – evening and weekend work will be required
• Current driving licence and own transport

The post is offered as a part time role (approx. 12 hours per week) Working hours will include a mix of evening and daytime shifts and will involve regular weekend working.
The post holder will also be on the emergency call-out list and may be required to respond to last minute shift request, as and when required.
