The 1st XV are on the road again to face London Irish Amateur RFC side in this week's National Leagues 2 South fixture.

Last week the lavender and black side fell to challengers and rivals Taunton Titans, the score concluding with Clifton Rugby 5 Taunton Titans 25.

Tony Yapp, Head coach of Taunton spoke after the game.

"Clifton as they proved when we played them at home are a tough side to break down, they are well coached and always find a way to stay in the game so we knew playing away on a bitterly cold day was going to be tough, so despite not picking up the bonus point we were very pleased with our performance and another win on the road."

With the bitter cold weather behind us the side now focus their efforts to this weekend's fixture against London Irish Wild Geese. The Wild Geese is the 1st XV of the amateur club under the London Irish brand. They were promoted to National 2 league (South) this year and despite loosing to Clifton Rugby earlier in the season their track record at home is positive.

There are a few changes in selection for Clifton Rugby's 1st XV this week. Arguably one of the best front rows in the league, competition for a starting shirt is tough. Alex Giltrow aka 'Grande Rouge' returns after serving a 2 week ban imposed on him by the RFU. Alex regretfully received a red card in the closing minutes of Clifton's match against Bishop's Stortford. His front row colleagues Wheeler, Booley, Wrafter, Bullimore, and Edwards all making the squad too. In the second row we see Mike Uren return from injury and he notably he will be hungry to earn back a regular position in the side and give a big performance. Dan Wells continues to make an impression in the mid-field and subsequently leads the side this weekend.

The fixture will be held at the home of London Irish at the Hazelwood Centre, Sunbury-on-Thames, TW16 6QU. Kick off is at 3.00pm GMT.
