With the season fast approaching, our first league match sees Clifton at home to Worthing RFC. With Worthing doing the double over Clifton last season, Clifton will be looking to avenge those defeats, as well as getting their campaign off to a good start on Saturday.
Worthing had a successful campaign last season, finishing fifth, amassing 19 wins out of their 30 league games, so the task at hand for the home side will be a difficult one.
The last time these to sides met here at station road, Worthing won by 40 points to 34, so Clifton will certainly go in to this match aiming to show a stronger defensive display. Head coach Matt Salter exaplains,
"Worthing are very good at the break down, they intend to hold the ball up and compete in these areas, so we will really have to concentrate defensively this weekend."
However Clifton will be coming in to the match having had a strong finish to their pre-season, with impressive victories over Bridgend and Thornbury respectively.
In addition to this, the lavender and blacks have been successful in the close season at bringing in new faces, with 15 new additions to the training squad. Hopefully this strength in depth, will help Clifton push on this season, and lead to a successful campaign.
With the match also being at home, Clifton will be hoping to continue the momentum built in pre-season with a first win on Saturday.
