Clifton Rugby 19 - Redingensians Rams 29

Clifton’s five match winning run came to an end in a fiercely contested encounter with the Rams in a game which was only decided in the final quarter. The deciding factor was the superior power of the visitor’s pack.

The home team began brightly when scrum half Mitch Spencer engineered a chip and chase after some slick passing to cross after three minutes. A sweeping Rams moves led to flanker Josh Collis scoring with impressive fly half Jamar Richardson adding the extras.
With their pack in the ascendancy the Rams were awarded a penalty try and Clifton lost a player to the bin. A clean break by Richardson led to a further score which he converted Clifton kept in the game when a long move saw number 8 Andy Chesters score under the post with Chris Levesley converting.

The introduction of prop Alex Giltrow made the Bristolians more competitive in the set pieces and a run by replacement Alex Lambert sent Spencer scampering in for his second try converted by Levesley.

With the game becoming a little fractious in the heat Miles Lloyd secured a penalty to seal the win for Redingensians. Clifton will take credit in their run of good form allowing them to compete vigorously with a team eight places above them. A missed opportunity with a dropped pass on the line and a crossing by Giltrow disallowed for a double movement could so easily have moved this game their way.
