We have got 95% of what we believe we need tied down for next season; it is an exciting time and we are itching to get the boys back out on the park in a few weeks time.

The powerhouse lock signed with Clifton at the start of 2019 and made an instant impact, tearing apart opposition defences and proving a steady option at set piece. Davies was previously at Welsh Principality Premiership side Llanelli.

The 20 year old was very excited to join Scottish’s professional setup.

“I’m delighted to of signed for London Scottish for the 2019/20 season. I know with the coaching staff and the fantastic training facilities London Scottish have to offer its the the perfect place to progress as a professional player. It’s almost a dream come true for me to sign my first professional contract as it’s what I’ve always wanted to achieve since first touching a rugby ball.”

The former Ospreys Under 18 player who was also named in the Wales Under 20 wider training squad will compete with Alex Toolis and Luke Frost for the second row shirt next season.

Clifton Assistant Coach Mike Barber:

"Matthew has been great for us this season, giving us options and greater depth in the 2nd row; he is young and has a lot of potential and when players get the offer of professional contracts, it is very hard to turn away when they are on the table, it is a great opportunity for him and everyone at Clifton respects his decision and wishes him well."

Davies is the second player to sign for a Championship side following the departure of Sam Goatley to Hartpury RFC and despite the loss of further quality in Dave Wheeler, the squad is moving in the right direction.

"Over 90% of the current squad have committed to new contracts and re-signed plus we will be in a position over the next few days to announce some recent acquisitions we believe will add real depth and quality across the squad, plus adding in some competition. Losing Sam (Goatley), Matty (Davies) and Wheeler is a shame but this is the nature of the game, boys move on and we have some great options in those positions; Jack Williams has been outstanding this season and Henry Harper, Shek Sheriff and Matt Hall have all made the second row a competitive area. We are exactly where we need to be and we have got 95% of what we believe we need down for next season. It is an exciting time and we are itching to get the boys back out on the park in a few weeks time."
