Thornbury RFC 24 - Clifton Rugby 33

Rugby may have many problems, but the gravest is undoubtedly that of the persistence of Summer.
- Chris Laidlaw

In a pulsating match which saw the home side take a 7 nil lead after an early Clifton attack in heavy conditions, the Cup holders fought back a spirited Thornbury side.

Clearly remembering their famous Cup win 4 years ago at Station Road (3-8), Thornbury pushed their visitors hard and their youthful team played with great commitment.

Clifton's team, with just five 1st XV regulars on field, demonstrated the Club's depth of talent and experience to hold back a resurgent Thornbury.

Aftab Hamid, in charge of the Clifton side for the first time, was full of praise for his side but also took time to recognise the talented Thornbury side that had been the opposition.

Clifton's men in #LavenderAndBlack will continue their title defence in the semi-final against either Old Redcliffians or Weston Hornets - watch this website for details.
