After the brilliant display of last week when we ran in s1x tries against Southend we travelled to the picturesque Cornish All Blacks ground at Polson Bridge.
We arrived to find the ground bathed in a wonderful autumn sunlight but unfortunately following heavy rain earlier in the week left it glutinous and slippery.
The home side have only won three games to date but have picked seven losing bonus points out of a possible eight which indicates the closeness of their results.
THE Cornish All Blacks kicked off down the slope and we were immediately penalised and conceded three points with home full back Kieron Lewitt slotted the ball between the posts.
This seem to inspire the home side who launched a series of forward drives towards the try line and eventually lock Ed Holmes forced his way over despite the presence of two would be tacklers.
Worst was to come when scum half Billy Searle appeared from nowhere to race to the line from the twenty two metre line in the thirteenth minute.
The reliable Lewitt landed his second conversion of the afternoon to establish a seventeen point lead.
We were clearly shocked by our poor start by and slowly worked our way back into the game though it was difficult to make progress up the slope.
The pressure we exerted up front forced the home side to give away penalties and fly half James Mackay landed two kicks at the posts before the break the second of which took him passed 100 points for the season.
The second half started like the first with Lewitt kicking an early penalty but Mackay quickly responded.
It was at the start of the second half it was nearly all Clifton whose forward pressure kept the home side penned close to the line.
The home side conceded a string of penalties while the referee award a number of scrum resets but the pace was taken out of the game as a string of home players required treatment
On the hour as we attempted a pushover the referees patience ran out and he awarded a penalty try which Mackay.
Disappointedly a number of the crowd booed the decision . Clubs are asked by the RFU to ensure spectators show respect to the Match Officials but clearly this was not the case as a few of the crowd let their club down.
We went in search of a try to seal the game but it was the home side who stretched away with a further Lewitt penalty.
The result was disappointing but our efforts were rewarded with a losing bonus point.
