Clifton v Old Pats u13
As we came to the Old Pats rugby ground we knew it would be a tough game as they were the Land Rover Cup winners last year
At the start of the first half Clifton kicked off. With a turnover from the other team Clifton set up our defensive line, Isaac ripped the ball and made a short run down the wing and scored our first try. This was a great start in the opening minutes of the game. After this they came back really strong and were attacking in our own half for about ten minutes but was released by a high kick from Jake. As we pushed up the field a chance opened up for Isaac, he stepped inside and passed it out to Speedy who made a short run down the wing but was unluckily tackled by the huge opposition player right on the try line.
Their first try was was 20 minutes into the first half when they found space and numbers on the left side of the pitch, evening up the scores to 1 all. Ten minutes later a loose ball was scooped up by Isaac in our own half and a great arching run through their players to score in the left corner, made the first half end at 2-1 to Clifton.
In the second half Old Pats came out in fighting spirit and within a few minutes their scrum half scored a two tries using a dummy move, a step and then scoring under the posts, giving them a lead at 3-2 for the first time in the game. Mid way through the second half, Isaac kicked a loose ball towards their line, and beat the race with the opposition to ground the ball, equalising the score at 3 all. For the last 15 minutes of the game, it was a pretty equal match with both sides having attacking chances, but being met with strong opposition defence.
At the end of the game, the 3 all score line felt a fair reflection of a match well fought by both teams.
