The Sun Shines on the Downs

The U10s played weathermen and made an early decision mid week that the Clifton pitches would be unplayable. This meant that there was no last minute changes and it turned out to be a great call.

Not wanting to lose another weekend of rugby both OBs and Taunton were happy to play up on the Downs.

Almost 30 boys traveled up from Taunton, OBs brought nearly 30 and Clifton 16. It was a relaxed day with team sizes changing depending on availability and playing new rules, well most of the time!

Whilst we ere missing some of our bruisers (Ben Paine, Ollie Simcox, James Lemon, James Wood) and some of our quick players (Sami & Ben Rogers) the remaining players all stepped up to the mark. There is still room for improvement with some of the tackling but the mixed teams I think are bring the players on.

Clifton's sides were mixed with some players playing for both sides. Side A won all three matches with a particularly hard final game against Taunton. This is the side that I was watching and whilst there were some good performance by the usual suspects without doubt the player who shocked us all was Hector Wright. Hector was a new player scoring 3 tries and doing some great ball carrying. Whatever he had for breakfast make sure he keeps having it!

Side 1, I did not see much of but understand that their games were closer but they won or drew all games. I hear that Luke had a great day and I am sure that the others did as well.

Overall the boys started off rusty having not played for sometime, but soon got into the flow and thoroughly enjoyed it. The weather was almost hot and the rain stayed off.

I know that this afternoon after playing 3-4 hard games after such a long time Jake was "kn****rd".
