Battle of the U12s Land Rover Champions

Clifton welcomed Silhillians RFC (Sils) on Saturday 23rd April who were touring from the West Midlands. Like Clifton Sils had won the Land Rover Cup at U11s and U12s. In fact they had won two of this years Land Rover cups. So Clifton knew that they were in good company.

The touring side were missing a few of their key players and as it was a Saturday fixture a number of the Clifton regulars were missing. At one point it looked as though we would not raise a full side so we called on the Clifton U11s. 5 players from the U11s turned out on the day; Isaac, Philip, Rohan, Speedy and Wesley. This was a great experience for them and if you did not know the players you would not have thought that they were not regular U12s. The slotted in well to the squad and in fact Isaac scored the first try of the match. Thank you guys for helping out. You are always welcome to join the U12s just don't tell Les ;)

Sils had brought enough boys to put out 2 mixed sides. Mixed sides they may have been but they both presented great opposition to Clifton showing the depth of talent within the Sils squad whilst Clifton had rolling subs. Sils play new rules, which whilst not Clifton's preferred rules, we are happy to play.

The teams played 4 x 12 minute sessions of great skillful rugby. Neither side wanted to concede tries but Sils with some very strong centres, and Clifton with their moves meant that both sides crossed the try line several times.

Clifton edged it on the day but without doubt Sils are worthy opponents that we hope to play again next year in our fixture list.

Unfortunately the Clifton boys had to leave quickly due to school fixtures but the Sils remained at the club well into the afternoon enjoying the good weather and holding their end of Season Kangaroo Court. No doubt they were guilty as charged!!

Thanks to Mike Leach of Sils for bringing your squad and parents to Clifton and we look forward to seeing you next season and before that at Twickenham for the final of the Aviva Premiership at the end of May.

Instructions

This is a Saturday game but have been asked if we want to play Silians. Should be a good game as they are a strong side. We could also look to do something as a squad after the game perhaps?!
