Clifton U12s played their first ever game of 7s today and won the Cirencester 7s tournament in style

Last Friday saw the end of season Clifton Minis awards night. The U12s were leaving the Minis section and about to start a new journey representing Clifton Juniors. Before that though there was time for one last tournament and their first outing playing 7s. Due to our own tour and playing a touring side we had no chance to practice playing 7s but thought it would be a fun way to end what has been another amazing and very successful season. With new players joining the club, including Saracen boys, and watching a number of the new players, some relatively new to the game improve week on week.

The tournament saw us playing some new sides which is always met with great anticipation by the coaches and players alike.

First up for Clifton were Dursley. A side that we have played in the normal game. They are good opposition but today the Clifton players made easy work of the game and finished 30-0 winners.

Cinderford were next and a team that we are hoping to play next season so great to meet them now. Clifton took a 10-0 lead into half time. With a number of changes made at half time the team didn't quite click but still showed good spirit. With Cinderford scoring two great tries the game was leveled at 10-10. Clifton managed to hold on for the draw. This was enough to get us through to the Semi Finals where we were to met Ledbury. A side that have recently toured to Clifton but not at our age group.

Clifton were back on form and had a good run out against Ledbury finishing 15-0 winners.

So it was only the final left. Clifton waited with baited breath to see who they would play. It would be Cheltenham. A team that we had played in the Gloucestershire and Land Rover Cup and a strong team. Today though Clifton were taking no prisoners and went into half time with a 20-0 lead. Clifton took the foot off the pedal in the second half (!) but finished up 35-5 winners.

Congratulations to all the boys on a great day and a superb season. A great group of boys who keep on getting better. Also a big thank you to all the parents for your support and bringing the boys to training and matches week in & week out come rain (mainly) and shine.

See you all in Twickenham at the end of May for the Aviva Premiership Final.
