U13s New Season, New Shirts, Same Team, Same Results

The start of the season has come slightly early with the first game being at the end of September. With only a few weeks training under our belts, and new players to slot into the team, the squad were looking forward to their first game and the opening of the Gloucestershire Cup Tournament.

Our home draw against Old Patesians had to be played away due to the Clifton Festival. With only 16 boys available and 2 matches it meant that everyone would have ample game time.

First up was the Gloucestershire cup match against Old Pats B side. Old Pats have entered 2 sides into the tournament). Clifton were playing up the hill in the first half. After a slow start Clifton soon got into their stride and never looked in doubt about the win or even letting a try in. The first half ended with Clifton leading by 25-0 Tries by Davey, Brock, Paddy, Connor and Isfahan.

Clifton put their subs on in the second half and moved players around and out of position. This didn't slow down the try factory of the Clifton U13s who run in a further 6 tries. Jake, Hamid (2), Connor, Jimmy, Isfahan.

Well done to the new boys Jimmy Davies and Isfahan Qamar for settling onto the team well and both scoring on the debut game. They should help make it an interesting year for the back line.

A resounding win shouldn't take it away from Old Pats who never gave up, played with great enthusiasm and spirit.

Next up were Old Pats A. Their Gloucestershire Cup game had been conceded so they asked if Clifton would oblige with a game. Having just played a 30 minute match it was decided to play 2 x 12 minute halves.

Clifton had the advantage of playing down hill and soon opened the scoring with a strong try by Davey. A second try soon followed by Jimmy. Just as Clifton looked like they were in control Old Pats came back with 2 quick tries to level the game. Clifton's Milan run in a try just before half time, giving Clifton a 15-10 lead.

With Clifton playing uphill in the second half it was all set up for a tough half but it was not to happen. Clifton dominated the second half and scored 4 tries to nil giving a final score of 35-10. Tries in the second half to Hamid (3) and Brock.

A great start to the season and two good matches played in great spirit by both teams.
