A spirited Farnham arrived at the club on Saturday for a pre-match lunch ahead of Clifton 1st XV playing London Irish Wild Geese. They were on tour and having fun though you could tell that they wanted the Clifton scalp to take home with them. Farnham had not lost this season and they were aware that Clifton were also unbeaten.
Farnham had been to ZaZaBaZaar the night before the match so their players were probably a little sluggish after over indulging.
Clifton scored early with a break through Farnham by Hamid. It was not long before Farnham came back to equalise. Heads down and Clifton were back at Farnham this time with a try by Jake Davies. Farnham not to be outdone came straight back to level the score at 10-10. Hamid managed to sneak a try in before half time but Clifton finally had a match this season.
Farnham were first out of the blocks after half time to equalise the score again. It was like a game of tennis but this is where Clifton tightened their game up having been out rucked and scrummed at times by Farnham. Tries by Rai, Jimmy Davies, Sanzo and Qumar meant that the game ended 35-15.
Playing on a full size pitch was a challenge for both sides but it was great to see some good running rugby by both sides. Farnham were a great side throughout the weekend and left the door open for Clifton to tour back to Farnham so we can experience their hospitality and play them on home turf....
Farnham Bs went on to play Broadplain and following that SBOB played a Barbarian side which gave all sides new teams to play and lots of rugby.
Thank you Farnham for coming to Clifton and we look forward to seeing you again.
