First of all, that was a great performance against Cheltenham and a massive improvement from last Sunday against Cleve. We were lucky to get Angus back at scrum half and Reader back in the backs, both having a great influence on the match and both getting tries. Gage was on his usual try scoring streak with 15 points on the board from him; Zak scored 2 great tries with one from his grubber kick and pick up across the line.
The forwards were a lot better than previous games as they were a lot better clearing out the rucks and good picking and going through phases which led to the try by Angus. However, a lot of the time particularly in lost ball situation we tend to just stay at the back of the ruck and watch instead of either pushing properly to counter ruck or fan out to form the defensive line. Another thing to improve is coming up quickly and together so that we don’t create dog legs that they can exploit. And unfortunately Ollie was injured as a result of this.
But all in all it was a great performance and we just need to not lose our heads when we play Cleve this Sunday.
P.S Tomos (Assistant head coach) told me to tell you guys always to keep your outside foot in front when you are defending and shout out guard and body guard at the fringes of the rucks.
