Chippenham came to us with a weakened but well-drilled side who caused us problems in the scrum and who held their own in the breakdown. Unfortunately this was often due to our own lack of commitment in these areas rather than the skill and physicality of the opposition.
On a more positive note, despite being second best in the set piece and struggling to get any sort of platform to play from we were still able to move the ball around well and to run some good supporting lines. There were also some good individual performances with some strong running, some nice hits and some good link-up plays which all led to 9 tries and 4 conversions being made (try scorers: Gage 5, Owen 1, Alec 1, Moniee 1, Nathan 1).
Overall we did enough to beat an under-strength Chippenham side but as a team we need to be a lot more structured and committed within our play if we are going to develop further as a team and to remain unbeaten when we face stronger sides. Let’s ensure we keep improving and enjoying our rugby.
