CRFC are delighted to announce Matt Salter will continue as Head Coach for 2018-19 season.

This will be Matt’s decade season as member of the coaching staff at Clifton Rugby. He joined Clifton following his retirement from professional rugby. He left Bristol Rugby (Bristol Bears) in 2009 and took up post as Bristol Rugby’s academy coach. Alongside this Matt became a player coach within Clifton’s senior squad at Station Road.

The 42 year old, who is originally from London has a wealth of experience not only as a player but also as a coach.

He originally played rugby league for London Broncos in 1999 but switched codes and briefly played for West Hartlepool before joining Bristol in 2000. He left Bristol in 2003 after they were relegated and joined Leeds Tykes. He re-joined Bristol in 2004-05 and became captain for four seasons in a row.

Matt has gone on to not only coach our senior side through roller coaster seasons, but he also has a wealth of experience in developing young players through elite programmes within Bristol Rugby Academy, through his time with Bristol University as Head Coach and also within his current position as Clifton College’s Directory of Rugby.

Matt understands the history of Clifton Rugby club, his involvement throughout the years has demonstrated loyalty, integrity, and at times his own personal sacrifices. His passion for rugby compliments his skill set as a coach and as a leader. We are excited to have Matt commit to the role for the forthcoming season.

We have a large number of the current squad players staying on for next season. This along with the confirmation of Matt’s appointment as Head Coach makes for a promising foundation to a side that has extreme potential competing in the National Two League South.
