Clifton Centre set to represent Zimbabwe

Clifton Centre set to represent Zimbabwe

Sam Harrison15 May 2021 - 20:52

One of Clifton Rugby's newest recruits, Marcus Nel, has been selected for the Sables training squad.

The Zimbabwe national rugby union team, nicknamed the Sables, represents the African nation of Zimbabwe on the international stage.

Nel, who was born and bred in Zimbabwe, played his university rugby in South Africa. Alongside this, he previously represented the Zimbabwe U20s side.

After this Nel moved to the UK to continue his studies at UWE, Bristol. It was here he played for Weston RFC before moving to Clifton Rugby prior to the covid-19 pandemic.

The Sables training squad is due to start a 6-week camp, which will be held in Harare. It will include five warm-up games against various sides including Namibia, Zambia and Blue Bulls.

This camp is held in preparations for the upcoming Africa Cup. The Africa Cup is the precursor for the Rugby World Cup qualifications.

We'd like to extend our congratulations to Marcus and wish him well with the challenges ahead.
