At the end of each season the Rugby Paper invites their match reporters to nominate players for the league’s Dream Team from all the teams we watched over the months.
This season no less than ten Clifton players made the final short list with Will Owen and Brad Talbot making the final selection.
Centre Will Owen selected for producing long powerful runs regularly brushing aside defenders in picking strong and intelligent lines. He received an incredible 83 per cent of the vote for his position.
Number 8 Brad Talbot is described as an excellent player in his position who rarely misses an opportunity to score. Injury cut his playing time short but he did manage fourteen tries!
Eight more of our players made the final cut including three props Ricky Cano, Rhys Charalambousand Alex Giltrow and pushed props from promoted Leicester Lions and Luctonians for the final slots.
Twelve of the selected team came from top fours clubs Lions, Clifton and Luctonians.
In the backs wing Alex Howman with a citation for always going forward with devastating pace in scoring and creating tries for others came close to the final call. Howman joined Owen in the league’s top six try scorers with fly half Luke Cozens in the top six points scorers.
Although not in the final XV the reporters made special mention of A J Kilbane for some sensational breaks and trademark stepping throughout the season.
Marcus Nel, although injured towards the final games, made the shortlist for a stellar campaign in the centre with our forward strength recognised with both locks Henry Harper and Joe Owen pushed hard for final inclusion against locks from the Lions and Luctonians.
Pleasing five players from other clubs nominated by Clifton also made the full XV and so good that other reporters recognised so many of our squad as testament to the Clifton brand and style of play created by Matt Salter and his coaching team.
