Clifton Wanderers vs Chard RFC

Wanderers 38 Chard 14

Clifton Wanderers delivered a strong all-round performance at home to Chard, running in six tries to secure a convincing 38–14 bonus-point victory and maintaining control for long periods of an entertaining contest.

The home side struck first after eight minutes when Malka finished smartly, with Delaney adding the extras to make it 7–0. Chard responded almost immediately, levelling the scores with a converted try of their own, but Wanderers quickly reasserted themselves.

On 14 minutes, Yasuda crossed for Clifton’s second try following good pressure, again converted by Delaney, restoring the seven-point advantage. Wanderers looked the more composed side through the middle of the half, managing territory well despite a couple of enforced changes, with Wyatt and Wooster entering the fray before the break.

At half-time, Wanderers held a deserved 14–7 lead.

The second half saw Clifton raise the tempo. Just three minutes after the restart, Malka grabbed his second of the afternoon to stretch the lead, before Chard were reduced to 14 men following a yellow card on 55 minutes.

Clifton capitalised immediately. Churchill powered over a minute later, and from there the game began to open up. Ollie Spragg, later named Man of the Match, added a well-taken try on the hour, converted by Delaney, before Thomas crossed soon after for Clifton’s sixth, again converted, pushing the score out to 38–7.

Chard showed credit by continuing to compete and were rewarded with a late converted try on 69 minutes, but it was little more than consolation as Wanderers comfortably saw out the closing stages.

The final whistle confirmed a 38–14 win and a valuable bonus point for Clifton Wanderers, built on solid defence, clinical finishing, and strong contributions across the squad. A special mention for Ollie Spragg, whose performance typified Wanderers’ control and ambition throughout the match.
