Misfits end losing streak with convincing win at Aretians

ARETIANS 12 - 40 MISFITS

A physical encounter against a strong Aretians 1st XV side saw Clifton defending for most of the first half, with some key turn over tackles made by captain Pete Anderson.

A superb kick through from fly half Will Lang led to a try for Freddie Earnshaw off of a scrum play. The kick was missed however Clifton went into half time 5-0 up.

Aretians came back swiftly with a well worked try, but their kick was missed aswell so the game was all tied up at 5-5.

However, Clifton forced their way back into the opposition 22 through some excellent kicking from Tom Murray. Eventually the pressure was too much for Aretians who conceded a penalty try making the score 12-5.

Clifton would then go onto score the next points which proved crucial as some superb hands from the backs leading to Leon Paul scoring in the corner. Conversion from Khane Young extended Clifton’s lead to 19-5.

Clifton’s fast paced game eventually caused Aretians problems as Will Lang would go over himself, slicing straight through the Aretians defence. Winger Leon Paul added the extras making the score 26-5.

Aretians would go on to score again but only as a consolation making the score 26-12.

Straight from receiving the kick off, Clifton would end up scoring from a break by Freddie Earnshaw with Tom Murray dotting down following excellent support. Second row Khane Young made the conversion making the score 33-12.

Eager to score again, Clifton would regain the ball of the kick off and after a few phases, Will Lang would score again in the corner showing some speed to score.

Khane Young again added the extras from the corner, ending the game 40-12 to Clifton.

Clifton’s fitness and expansive game proved too much for the Aretians defence, however the Lavender & Blacks defence was crucial with some great defensive moments from players such as Andy Cook and Lucas Spindler.

Man of the Match went to centre Freddie Earnshaw whose repeated line breaks and off loads were a constant thorn in Aretians side all afternoon.

Another weekend off then our Misfits look forward to the next road trip to Old Bristolian’s 2nds.
