The Club is deeply saddened to learn about Patrick’s death yesterday.

Clifton Rugby’s Executive Committee learned about Patrick Casey’s sudden death yesterday.

Our thoughts are with Patrick’s family and all those who are affected by his passing.

Members and Supporters may not have met Patrick, however it is likely that many will know of his contributions to Clifton Rugby.

Patrick was born in Loughborough in 1955, he was educated in Nottingham and graduated with a BSc in Computer Science and a MSc in IT from universities in Edinburgh.

A lifelong supporter of Nottingham Rugby, Patrick’s involvement with Clifton RFC started when he coached in the youth sections from 2002 - 2007 and his son Daniel, played through from u7s to u12s.

Patrick was Vice-Chairman of the Junior section from 2004 - 2005 and then Chairman of the Junior section 2005 - 2006.

The Clifton Rugby history website was started by Patrick in 2002 and has gone on to be (probably) the most comprehensive club history website in the world.

Partnering with Richard Hale, Patrick wrote and published 'For College, Club & Country - A History of Clifton Rugby’ in 2009. This third book written about Clifton RFC’s history, focussed on players and their families with particular emphasis on the lives of Clifton Rugby players who lost their lives in the World Wars.

This approach epitomises how Patrick wanted the Club to be thought of: its stories, its effects on individuals and families and most of all how we can all relate through a common link despite the distance of time or geography.

I worked with Patrick on the website in recent years and represented him at the RFU Rugby History museum a short while ago for a formal opening of new exhibits. His work was recognised far and wide and his friendship and advice eagerly sought by many.

The Club is richer for the contributions of Members like Patrick Casey and in July this year he was awarded a Vice Presidency of the Club in recognition of his timeless contributions through the website and book (AGM news).

We will miss you and your unique perspectives Patrick.
