Clifton played the entire second half with fourteen players but it was the power of their pack and sharp opportunities taken by their backs which denied their visitors the advantage of having superior numbers on the pitch.
Playing against the strong wind the home side’s powerful scrum gave quality possession which initially an astute kick resulted in a try in the corner for Bentley Halpin. Then a powerful scrum resulted in a pushover try for Alfie To’ala converted by Brad Barnes.
Following an altercation Clifton prop Callum Simpson was shown a red card. Jack Jolly kicked a penalty for the Bees and then a Clifton lapse let in Nathan Tilsley for a blindside try to give Clifton a narrow interval lead.
A long period of Clifton pressure saw the referee unsighted when they appeared to cross, and then a clever cross field kick presented Alex lambert with a try. Straight from the kick off winger Will Pomphrey ran strongly to present the ever threatening Chris Levseley with the chance t score. Barnes converted to increase the Clifton lead.
A sharp break saw Will Pomphrey weave his way over and establish a commanding home lead. Barnes again converting.
The Bees took advantage when Clifton emptied their bench and were rearranging to score two quick tries through Tilsley and Luke Smith with Jolly converting both
