Clifton continue winning ways against Redruth

Clifton’s mid season form continued to improve in a game which had an attritional first half in which the home side largely enjoyed territorial advantage but were denied scoring by strong Redruth tackling and their own mistakes.

The only first half scores came from the respective fly halves Brad Barnes and Richie Kevern swapping penalties.

The match burst into life on the re-start when, directly from the kick off Clifton Flanker Chris Rovery was bundled over the line with Barnes converting. Almost immediately the Reds responded when Tom Notman made a break and kicked ahead to gather and score to close the gap. During this frantic period centre Chris Levesley made a clean break to allow Will Pomphrey to find space to squeeze into the corner. Barnes then added a penalty.

Redruth came back strongly and attacked the Clifton line with Connor Gilbert scampering under the post s for Kevern to convert and reduce the deficit to three points.

Clifton half backs Mitch Spencer and Brad Barnes showed good control and awareness with the assured boot of Barnes putting two further penalties over in the closing minutes to ensure the victory.in a game which saw some glimpses of creative back play and strong defences from both sides who before the game were locked together in the table on the same number of points.
