A strong looking Clifton Wanderers side put local rivals Dings Crusaders to the sword on a warm and dry November afternoon at Shaftesbury Park.
Clifton were at full strength, having a multitude of players with first team experience in their line up, showing the strength in depth throughout the club.
Clifton came out of the gate firing and scored their first try three minutes in, courtesy of winger Jamie Stevens. Opposite winger Kris Richards followed suit by going over on the 20 minute mark before Dave Wheeler went over late in the half. Dings powered over for their solo try late in the second half before Stevens danced few some soft Dings tackles and went over just before half time in a nicely worked strike move from the back line. The score at the half was 24-7 but Clifton knew that they had the advantage of the wind and slope in the second half.
The next 40 minutes saw Clifton show their class and fitness as they ran in another nine tries against a depleted Dings side. There were three tries for man of the match Shay Sainsbury, who had a dominant and physical display at number eight. Stevens also took his tally to four for the match with a further two in the second half. James Tayler, Findlay Hazel, Ed Grinstead and Zak Hamid all crossed for one each as Clifton exploited the space in the wide channels and played some of the best rugby we’ve seen all year.
That makes it 10 games unbeaten in the league for the Wanderers this year, who have scored a mammoth total of 493 points already. After a week off, the Wanderers will face Dursley at Station Road, looking to extend the unbeaten run and edge closer to the league title.
