Wanderers weather the storm
The day was bright and sunny though there was a certain breeze in the air. The eagerly anticipated game V Cleeve was on and a team had been found to play. Returning from injury were Lovell and Manners who joined seasoned veteran Levis in the back row. The front row had Gollidge and Lesli holding up Giddings and looked to be in good shape, the pack was completed by Penhale and Blowers, back to lend a hand in the engine room.
The back line was looking impressive, Captain Scouse had a blown calf still so the full back slot went to Smith and wings were Mcclaine and Thomas, The centre pairing of Breeze and Wyse were fed by Kevene who had the job of collecting scrum half Gareth Masons pass!
In truth I have seen better games; The Wands were clearly the better side but never took hold of this encounter to press home their superiority. Mcclaine was denied a hat trick when a nifty tackle by the corner flag took him out… yes the flag pole whipped him into touch! There were good return performances by young Manners and Lovell and the evergreen Levis and Breeze ran the show well.
After a couple of weeks with no game Rob Penhale pinned his ears back and hit several rucks , carried well and was awarded Man of the Match by skipper Will. Well done Penhale old chap.
Others who did well were Mason and Smith and Wyse who put in a decent shift all-round. Scorers were Mcclaine 2 and Wyse 1with Kevern adding some extras the score was 22- 7 . There was some evidence of those who train being the most active around the field . On a disappointing note despite attending the Johnny Wilkinson kicking school for 18 months Scouse Will was not invited to the secret wedding of his hero this weekend. Never mind Will you’ll soon be back hacking them over for the Lavenders.
Another home game this week , so I can leave the old jalopy in the garage and walk along to see the boys , come on Wands lets up the style and play for 80mins!
