Dings Knights V Clifton Wanderers

Dings Hilton Denton’s Clifton

Dings 71 – Clifton 0

It was a tough day at the coal face, with a much changed side playing the strongly set up Dings Knights. As with all Clifton, Dings games this one was the usual mixture of rhetoric and guile, The Dings team was certainly a strong one while the Clifton side saw many changes and some non-arrivals .

The game started went well, but then it was downhill faster than a runaway snowboard in Sochi. Dings were far too organised and powerful for the raggle - taggle Wanderers who had lost their mojo this week. Rob Thomas a last second stand in at 9 struggled all day to get things going as the experienced opposition back row smashed into the scrums. rucks and mauls. The pack fought a largely rear-guard action rather like the last stand with General Custer, The Front row in particular facing the cheeky chappy that is a certain Mr Hilton, multi capped international who at times having done the business at Scrum time was seen lurking in the 13 channel. The brightest lights in the pack came from the back row of Levis, Penhale and Beer who tackled their hearts out and worked really hard all game.

From the undulations of the touchline we could only watch in anguish as several players took knocks in the frantic battle and in the 2nd half we began losing players faster than the titanic took on water. First Gollidge with a calf strain, then Beer with a stinger, Mclaine had pulled a fetlock early and was now hobbling bravely but impotent on the wing. We eventually ended with 2 loan players from Dings and our Physio on the wing!

It was one of those days, Dings played well and in good form gave us a tanking, they game was clean and our defensive effort admirable but on the day they were too powerful for the misshapen Wanderers who took to the field proudly in their Clifton shirts.

Another battle next week at Old Bristolians, I shall break out the push bike and hop over the bridge for that one.

Touchline Tarquin.
