Clifton beat North Bristol

In perfect conditions and with the thrill and honour of playing on the 1st XV pitch in front of a buzzing crowd, Clifton under-13s rose to the occasion to secure a convincing 31-0 victory over North Bristol.

We scored five tries but the dogged effort of North Bristol throughout the match shouldn't be underestimated. None of our tries came easily. And it took some heroic defence on our try line to hold out the visitors on several occasions.

The try scorers were marauding Matthew, searing Sam Read (2), rampant Riley and the leonine Louis. Well done, boys. Sorry about the adjectives.

Our forwards were on particularly good form, making the most of the dry conditions to put together some superb surges, with deft interplay.

Meanwhile the backs, despite having to play in a number of combinations because of all the substitutions to give everyone game time, were disciplined in defence and showed good handling and speed when the opportunities arose. The scrambling defence was especially good.

Man of the match was Riley for his all-round effort in the pack, and a number of spectacular runs, brushing off a string of tacklers each time.

With conversions now added to the game, Elliott stepped forward to slot one over, and Kyle knocked over the other two. Kicking could well be the difference between winning and losing this season, so keep up the practice, boys.

Summing up, the game was hard-fought but played in great spirit by both sides. (Thanks to North Bristol players and coaches, in case you read this).
