We couldn't have asked for a better start to the season than this 29-0 win over Clevedon.
The sun was out, we were on the lush first team pitch and the boys gave us lots to applaud in what turned out to be a convincing victory against a tough Clevedon side, whom we had only narrowly beaten in the Nando's Cup at the end of last season.
We scored five tries - two from Sam Read with his trademark weaving runs, one for Ryley who looks even more powerful this season, one from Matt and one from No 8 Dom, who picked up from the base of the scrum to storm over from the 22.
New backrower George was impressive with ball in hand and in defence. Another on debut, Ollie, showed plenty of promise at hooker while having to contend with the new law of uncontested lineouts - and even the scrums ended up uncontested due to a Clevedon injury!
After a shaky start with a wet ball, we grew into the game and displayed some deft handling and pace in the backs while Elliott showed he could give us good field position with his hefty boot.
But it was the forwards combining with some sublime offloads who took the prize for move of the day. Let's hope for more of that.
There were plenty of notable performances but the player who stood out most and this week's Man of the Match is George.
