Back to winning ways

A wet morning meant it was going to be a difficult day for handling but the team coped well and managed to score some great tries. St Brendan’s were missing a few players so we agreed uncontested scrums. Clifton also had a few withdrawals meaning Elliot needed to step in at scrum half.

After an even opening where the opposition held firm we finally scored through Dominic who throughout played a captain’s role. The tries then flowed through the first half with 5 more added (3 for Sam C, 1 more for Dom and 1 for Sam Read) and 4 conversions.

The second half followed a similar pattern with us taking time to break down the opposition defence. The first score of the second half was probably our best with forwards and backs combining well with a flowing move finished by Sam C (his fourth). St Brendan’s did have a period of pressure near our line but our defence held strong. Further tries from Ashe, Finn and two for Matt with one conversion completed the scoring.

Given the conditions the team played well. Many thanks to St Brendan’s for their visit and despite the weather it turned out to be an enjoyable morning. Much better than being in the warm and dry!
